The 2027 BMW 330 and 330 xDrive are the starting point for the gasoline 3 Series, and they carry the full weight of the Neue Klasse era: a new design, a new digital cockpit, and a refined 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 48V mild-hybrid technology. This is the 3 Series most drivers will meet first, and the one built around everyday sport-sedan driving.
In this post, we're focused on the 4-cylinder 2027 3 Series models. To learn about the entire Neue Klasse 3 Series lineup, click below.

Engine, Performance, and Drivetrain
Both models are powered by a 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo inline four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. The 48V mild-hybrid system uses a belt-driven starter generator to support the engine and reclaim energy. The engine uses the latest Valvetronic fully variable valve control with switchable exhaust valves, which BMW says reduces engine drag torque by about 66 percent and lets the mild-hybrid system recover more energy. It also runs on the Miller combustion cycle to improve efficiency. Both the 330 and the 330 xDrive accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, and top speed is electronically limited, at 155 mph when equipped with sport tires.
The performance figures between the 330 and 330 xDrive are the same, so the choice comes down to traction and price. The 330 sends power to the rear wheels, the classic 3 Series layout. The 330 xDrive adds BMW’s intelligent all-wheel drive for $2,000 more at base MSRP, which gives added confidence on wet, snowy, or slick roads. If you drive through winter, xDrive is the more practical pick. If you want the purest rear-drive feel, the 330 delivers it.
The new 3 Series rides on a revised chassis with a wider track and a longer wheelbase than the previous generation. The front double-joint spring-strut axle and five-link rear axle are retuned, with a new steering ratio and an upgraded integrated braking system for a consistent pedal feel. Standard wheels are 19 inches, with 20-inch options. For more control, optional adaptive suspension or Adaptive M Suspension (paired with sport steering) is available, and the M Sport package adds M Aerodynamics components and an M steering wheel option.

Exterior Design
The 330 and 330 xDrive wear the Neue Klasse look in a modern 2.5-box silhouette, with a long wheelbase, short overhangs, and muscular wheel arches that give the sedan a wide, planted stance. The gasoline models measure 187.6 inches long on a 112.6-inch wheelbase, slightly larger than the previous generation. A low character line visually lowers the car’s center of gravity, and flush door handles extend automatically as you approach.
The front end reinterprets BMW’s four-eyed face with a horizontal light signature that spans nearly the full width of the car, and the BMW badge sits in the valley above the kidneys. The available Iconic Glow package adds contour lighting to the kidney grille and three selectable welcome animations: Balanced, Relaxed, and Excited. At the rear, horizontal taillights with a three-dimensional L-shaped signature extend into the car’s sculpted shoulders.
Wheels come in 19 and 20 inches, with 19-inch wheels standard. Eleven exterior colors are offered at launch, including Le Castellet Blue metallic, an exclusive finish for the 3 Series, and BMW Individual paint finishes join the palette during 2027. The optional M Sport package adds the M Aerodynamics package with model-specific bumpers, side skirts, and a diffuser, and the available M Sport brakes with blue calipers. The M Sport Professional package adds black mirror caps, a black rear spoiler, and red brake calipers.

Interior Design
The cabin is built around the driver. A wraparound design flows from the doors into the instrument panel, and BMW Panoramic Vision projects driving information across the full width of the lower windshield so there is no separate gauge cluster behind the wheel. The 17.9-inch free-cut Central Display is angled toward the driver, and the optional BMW 3D Head-Up Display adds spatial navigation and assistance graphics. The redesigned steering wheel has a central spoke in its upper section for the first time in a 3 Series, along with pronounced thumb rests and Shy Tech controls that illuminate only when a function is available. Shift paddles are standard.
A panoramic glass roof is standard, and the cabin gets electric seat adjustment with memory, a backrest-mounted Travel & Comfort System for rear passengers, two-zone automatic climate control, and a seven-speaker, 205-watt hi-fi system. Harman Kardon sound with Dolby Atmos is available. Optional multifunction seats add lumbar support, backrest-width adjustment, and seat ventilation, and available three-zone climate control and heated rear seats round out the comfort options. The center console keeps physical controls for the parking brake, hazard lights, and audio volume, plus a tray with inductive smartphone charging.
Three interior themes are offered. Contemporary uses Veganza seat coverings in Digital White, Castanea, Agave Green, or Black. The BMW M interior pairs Black Veganza with M PerformTex, and the BMW Individual interior offers exclusive Black Merino leather. Ambient lighting coordinates with the displays after dark.

Technology and Driver Assistance
BMW Operating System X, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with Alexa+ technology, and standard BMW Digital Key Plus make the 330 one of the most connected sedans in its class. Driving Assistant Plus is standard, and the available Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Highway Assist for attentive hands-free driving at up to 85 mph on suitable highways.
How It Compares
Next to the M350 xDrive, the 330 gives up power, with 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft versus 437 horsepower and 428 lb-ft, and a 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds versus 3.9. In exchange, it costs $14,000 less at base MSRP. Compared with the electric i3 50 xDrive, it costs less to start and uses a conventional fuel tank instead of a charge port.
