How the Process Works

Find Your Vehicle

Work with our team to select your vehicle and complete the purchase process remotely. We'll guide you through each step and answer any questions along the way.

Please note: A video call with the customer is required as part of our verification process.

Complete Identity Verification

For remote out-of-state purchases, each buyer listed on the paperwork must provide three forms of identification, including:

  • A color copy of the front and back of a primary photo ID
  • A second form of photo identification
  • A third supporting form of identification

Acceptable supporting documents may include a passport, Social Security card, birth certificate, utility bill, pay stub / proof of income, mortgage or installment loan statement, credit/debit card with a matching statement, or other official identification.

These requirements help protect both you and ONYX Automotive from identity theft and fraud.

Complete Your Purchase

A minimum 10% down payment is required on all vehicle purchases. We accept:

  • ACH
  • Wire Transfer
  • Debit Card
  • Credit Card

Credit and debit card payments are limited to $5,000. Credit card payments are subject to a 3% processing fee.

All funds must be received and verified before the vehicle is released. Financed purchases must be fully funded by the lender before release.

ONYX Handles Title & Registration

Applicable taxes and registration fees are included in your transaction. We work with a professional vehicle registration service to assist with the necessary DMV paperwork.

Your vehicle will be titled and registered using your home / residential address, and your plates will be sent to you.

Important: We do not title vehicles to alternate addresses or accommodate remote / “Montana” titling.

Our Title Department works with the appropriate state agencies to complete the title transfer process. Processing times vary by state, but we strive to complete title work within approximately 30 days.

We Coordinate Delivery

Once your funds have cleared, we'll coordinate transportation through our approved transportation partner.

Transportation costs are the responsibility of the customer, and vehicles must be delivered to the residential address where they will be titled and registered.

Using our approved carrier helps us maintain a secure chain of custody and provides a reliable, insured delivery process.

State & Purchase Requirements

In-Person Purchases

Customers in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota, and Missouri who complete their purchase in person at the dealership do not need to complete the additional out-of-state identification requirements.

If the transaction is completed remotely, the standard out-of-state requirements apply regardless of where you live.

California State Restriction

Due to California's state regulations, titling requirements, and fraud-prevention considerations, ONYX Automotive does not currently complete out-of-state transactions for clients in California. If you're unsure whether we can complete a transaction in your state, please contact our team before beginning the purchase process.

Why do you need so many documents?

How do I register and get plates?

Why can't I use my own transportation company?
For security and reliability, we work with an approved transportation partner that meets our standards for insurance, communication, and vehicle security. This helps reduce fraud and delivery issues while maintaining a secure chain of custody for your vehicle.
Why does my vehicle have to be delivered to my residence?
Vehicles are delivered to the residential address where they will be titled and registered. This policy helps prevent fraud, maintain accurate registration information, and provide a secure delivery process.
Can I purchase a vehicle without coming to the dealership?
Absolutely. We regularly assist customers who purchase remotely. Our team will guide you through the purchase, verification, financing or payment, title and registration, and transportation process.
