The Range Rover Electric Is Here: A New Era for the Luxury SUV - DriveONYX.com

Published on Sep 24, 2026 by Joshua Carlson

For more than five decades, Range Rover has defined what a luxury SUV should feel like. Now that definition is going electric. Range Rover has officially opened orders for the Range Rover Electric, the first fully electric model in the nameplate’s history, and it’s built to prove that battery power can deliver the same effortless, commanding presence Range Rover owners expect, just with a different kind of engine under the floor.

Overview

  • Fully Electric First: The Range Rover Electric marks the nameplate’s first fully electric model, built at Solihull with twin electric motors delivering 550PS and 850Nm of torque, a 0-60 mph time of 4.3 seconds, and single-pedal driving capable on grades up to 45 degrees.
  • Range and Rapid Charging: A 118.5kWh battery delivers up to 372 miles of WLTP range (333 real-world miles), with ThermAssist adding up to 25 miles back in cold weather and 350kW DC rapid charging taking the battery from 10-80% in about 22 minutes.
  • Orders Open Now Across Six Trims: The Range Rover Electric spans SE, HSE, Autobiography, SV, SV Ultra, and SV Black trims in standard and long-wheelbase body styles, with UK pricing starting at £154,070 OTR and orders are open now.

All About the All-New Powertrain

At the heart of the Range Rover Electric are twin permanent magnet electric motors producing a combined 550PS and 850Nm of torque, enough for a 0-60 mph time of 4.3 seconds and a 50-75 mph passing sprint in just 2.7 seconds. That kind of instant, near-silent power is a genuine shift in character for a vehicle built around composure rather than drama.Power comes from a 118.5kWh usable, double-stack lithium-ion battery built from 344 prismatic cells on an 800-volt architecture. That translates to up to 372 miles of WLTP range, with a real-world figure of up to 333 miles (535km). A ThermAssist heat management system can add up to 25 miles of range back in cold weather, addressing one of the most common concerns EV buyers raise about winter driving.Charging is just as quick. On a 350kW DC rapid charger, the battery goes from 10-80% in about 22 minutes, or adds 137 miles (220km) of range in just 10 minutes. Owners get access to more than a million public chargers across the UK and Europe, plus the Tesla Supercharger network in North America.

Built Where It All Began

The 2027 Range Rover Electric is built at Solihull, UK, the home of Range Rover since 1970. More than 9,000 manufacturing employees at the plant have been upskilled for electrification, and battery packs and electric drive units are produced at JLR’s Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton. It’s a full-circle moment: the same craftsmanship and rigor that built the original Range Rover is now building its electric successor.

Still a Thoroughbred Range Rover

Range Rover has been clear that this is “Range Rover first, electric second,” and the engineering backs that up. An Integrated Traction Management system reacts in 50 milliseconds, about 100 times faster than a combustion powertrain, while Intelligent Driveline Dynamics can shift rear torque anywhere from 100% to 0% to keep the vehicle composed on any surface. Single-pedal driving is capable on grades as steep as 45 degrees, giving the electric powertrain genuine off-road credibility, not just city-driving polish.“Electric propulsion is perfectly suited to the exquisite refinement of Range Rover, elevating the sense of calm and secluded sanctuary,” said Martin Limpert, Managing Director of Range Rover.

Matt Becker, JLR’s Vehicle Engineering Director, added that “the responsiveness and precision of the new driveline control systems, enabled by electric propulsion, perfectly support refined, capable performance across every surface.”

Design and Technology

Outside, the Range Rover Electric gets an aerodynamically optimized grille and wheel design along with a tailored underbody, all aimed at maximizing range at motorway speeds without compromising the model’s unmistakable silhouette. First Edition models arrive in exclusive Belgravia Green, Santorini Black, and Varesine Blue finishes, paired with Light Cloud UltraFabrics PU and Kvadrat interior materials. As always, Range Rover Bespoke commissioning is available for buyers who want a truly one-of-one build. On the technology side, the Range Rover app gives owners remote access to charging status, vehicle location, cabin purification, and the heated steering wheel. A Battery Digital Twin tracks more than 900 diagnostic data points and supports Software Over The Air updates, so the vehicle keeps improving after it leaves the showroom. JLR has filed 300 patent applications related to the vehicle, the most in Range Rover’s history.

Tested and Ready for Anything

Before reaching production, the Range Rover Electric logged more than 1.5 million kilometers of physical testing and over 250,000 hours of virtual testing, including extreme cold in Sweden (-40C), desert heat in Dubai, and off-road punishment at the Eastnor Castle test facility. Advanced AI-enabled quality scanning is also used during manufacturing to catch imperfections before vehicles leave the plant.

Trims and Pricing

The Range Rover Electric will be available in SE, Autobiography, SV, SV Black, and SV Ultra specifications, in both standard and long-wheelbase body styles. In the US, the standard-wheelbase SE starts at $138,000 MSRP before a $2,450 destination charge, bringing the total to roughly $140,450. The long-wheelbase Autobiography lands around $183,200, and the range-topping SV Ultra is expected to start near $275,000.The electric-exclusive First Edition, distinguished by its Belgravia Green, Santorini Black, and Varesine Blue paint options and unique interior specification, is the version launching first in the US, priced at $179,150 including destination. A lower-priced version of the lineup is expected to follow. EPA-estimated range for US models tops out at 333 miles.
